Project details
The action was the reform of the construction project for cell no. 4 of the Miramundo solid urban waste landfill in Medina Sidonia, Cádiz. This landfill receives urban waste from thirty-four municipalities in the province of Cadiz. The environmental complex is prepared to receive both raw waste and waste separated at source. It has a capacity to treat more than 240,000 tonnes per year.
In terms of the planned geosynthetic package, the landfill capping contains a geosynthetic layer composed of:
- Atarfil HD geomembrane 2.00 mm.
- Natural sodium bentonite geocomposite made up of two 200 gr/m2 non-woven geotextiles, bentonite at a rate of 5 kg/m2 and approximately 5.3 kg/m3 total weight of the product, joined by means of a needling process. It includes the execution of overlaps between rolls, fixings and other elements or materials necessary for its correct installation on site. Fully installed.
- 500 gr/m2 high performance non-woven geotextile made of continuous U.V. stabilised polypropylene filaments with a CBR puncture resistance of 6,490 N.
- Drainage geocomposite at the bottom of the landfill. A drainage geocomposite with a crushing strength of over 1,600 kPa and a drainage capacity of 0.20 l/m.s at 500 kPa (i=0.1) consisting of a 7.0 mm thick HDPE three-wire drainage geonet with two PP geotextiles, 300 g/m2 and 200 g/m2 respectively, non-woven, heat-set on both sides.
In addition, a ballasting system was installed on the slopes of the basin with ballast sleeves, as the project is located in a high wind load area. It is surrounded by several wind farms.
