Mina Las Cruces is a hydrometallurgical mining complex dedicated to copper extraction, located in the province of Seville. It is one of the most relevant copper mining projects in Europe. Cobre Las Cruces S. A is the company responsible for the exploitation belonging since 2013 to the Canadian multinational First Quantum Minerals Ltd.
Since 2012, several infrastructures have been required within the mining complex with the need for waterproofing, among which four ponds and some actions for the containment of the tailings dumps stand out.
Solution
For this waterproofing need, which required a membrane with very high chemical resistance, a long service life and superior mechanical properties, Atarfil HD 1.50 mm geomembrane was chosen for all of them. A total of 310,000m2 were installed from 2012 to 2017.
