Project Details

In 2020, the installation of the lining system for Brine Pond 7 at the Condabri Central Water Treatment Facility (WTF) was successfully executed. This project required a highly reliable geomembrane solution capable of withstanding demanding operational and environmental conditions.
The HDPE liners selected for the pond were expected to operate under temperatures of up to 60 °C. At such elevated temperatures, the long-term performance of the lining system depends not only on the installation process, but also on the intrinsic quality of the materials. Ensuring durability in these conditions demanded:

  • Careful review of the physical and mechanical properties of the proposed liner.
  • High-grade resin quality combined with a robust antioxidant package to guarantee resistance to thermal and chemical degradation.
  • A formulation that provided not only mechanical strength, but also dimensional stability to maintain integrity throughout the pond’s lifespan.

The installation was carried out by a specialized local company, while ATARFIL supplied both the primary and secondary liners. ATARFIL, as manufacturer, was required to demonstrate full compliance with the project specifications. This involved:

  • Providing extensive project references with similar operational demands.
  • Supplying test data that verified consistency in mechanical and endurance properties.
  • Ensuring that the liners met stringent international standards for durability, tensile strength, puncture resistance, and chemical stability.
