The Wind Farm has the capacity to fully satisfy the electricity demand of El Hierro. Surplus wind energy that is not consumed by the island&#8217;s population is used to pump water from a lower reservoir to an upper reservoir. This water is stored in the upper reservoir and used to produce electricity by means of a hydraulic jump at times when wind power is insufficient.   <\/p>\n\n<p>The upper reservoir has a capacity of 380,000 <sup>m3<\/sup>. This reservoir, located at an altitude of 700 m, is connected to the lower reservoir by a penstock. The lower reservoir can store 150,000 <sup>m3<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n<p>Atarfil HD geomembrane was selected for its high durability performance.
